Meet Teresa & Bear
Hi, I’m Teresa—and this handsome guy with the black eye patch is Bear. I’m 61, retired earlier than I planned because of severe arthritis, and I refuse to spend the rest of my life staring at four walls. So I decided to become a Glamping Granny, and I hope you will, too.
The truth is, I get bored sitting at home with nobody to talk to during the day except Bear. He’s a great listener, but not much of a conversationalist. My husband works nights, so I’m often on my own. I crave sunshine and I feel most alive when I’m outdoors (except when it’s too hot to breathe). I enjoy seeing all the beauty in this world-the animals, the flowers and trees, and all the gorgeous water.
There’s nothing quite as nice as watching the sun rise over the ocean or sink behind a mountain. The colors make my heart happy.
The problem is we live on the flat, muddy side of Tennessee. Beautiful in its own way, but not where my soul feels happiest. So whenever I can, I hitch up my trailer and head for the mountains or the beach—places that fill me with color, fresh air, and joy.
How Glamping Became My Solution
I’ve always loved the outdoors. Tent camping was fine when I was younger, but my body can’t handle it anymore. I started with a pop-up camper, thinking that would be the answer. It wasn’t. Setting it up was more than I could manage.
So I traded up for a 17-foot travel trailer—just enough space for me and Bear, me and my husband, or a weekend with three grandkids. It’s small, but it works. Best of all? Camping is easy now. Back into a site, plug up the electric, and I’m good to go.
Why I Started Glamping Grannies
When I retired, I realized most of my friends were tied to my old job. Sure, I have my best friend Karen—she’s the Louise to my Thelma (our private joke)—and she joins me on trips when she can. But I wanted a bigger circle of women who love traveling and exploring as much as I do.
That’s why I created Glamping Grannies—a place for women over 55 to connect, share ideas, and encourage each other to make the most of life’s next chapter.
What Makes Me Happy
Family tops the list, followed by travel and adventure. I want to visit all 51 national parks and every state in the U.S. I also enjoy kayaking on calm lakes, fishing on quiet mornings, reading by the fire, and writing stories that make people smile.
Writing is a big part of who I am. So far, I’ve written:
- Three Glamping Grannies cozy mysteries
- Several children’s books
- A beach-themed cozy mystery set in Florida
Meet Bear
Bear is half Border Collie, half Blue Heeler, and 100% trouble when it comes to squirrels. He loves kids, belly rubs, and sneaking onto my bed when I’m not looking. His hobbies include destroying every stuffed animal I buy—usually in under five minutes—and rolling in the grass right after a bath. If you hear barking in the background of one of my videos, that’s Bear making sure everyone knows who’s boss.
