I think everybody has a bucket list of some kind–things you want to do, places you want to go, adventures you want to conquer. I have a couple of lists (visit all 50 states, go on a cruise, learn to dance); but one thing I really want to do is experience glamping at some of the most unusual places in the United States.
Because glamping isn’t just spending the night in a luxury RV or cabin–glamping is experiences and adventures and friendships. So, here is my bucket list of glamping experiences. If you see something that interests you or decide you want to join me, drop a comment in the box at the bottom of the page. 🚙
Transparency note: We haven’t stayed at these places yet. This list is a product of what my imagination thinks would be exciting. Each place really exists, and I do hope to visit some of them in the future. We’ll update this page after each visit—and we’d love your suggestions.

Luxe Domes at The Glamping Collective, NC
A clear geo-dome sitting on the side of a mountain with unbelievable views. Doesn’t that sound heavenly? Even better, each dome has a king-sized bed, air conditioning, hot tub, and fire pit. They are far enough apart for privacy, but there is a community area with a large fire ring, relaxing chairs, and peaceful ambiance. The perfect place to meet new friends–maybe even fellow Glamping Grannies.
Know before you book: Ask about parking distance, handicap access, and heating/AC details for seasonal stays.

Grand Canyon Wagons, AZ
This would take care of two of my bucket list items: see the Grand Canyon and stay in a Conestoga Wagon. There’s something magical about the thought of sleeping in a covered wagon, like our ancestors did. Of course, these wagons have double beds, indoor plumbing, and air conditioning. It’s like glamping with a touch of history added in.
Know before you book: Confirm bathroom setup (private bath vs bathhouse), path lighting at night, and step height into wagons.

Bolt Farm Treehouse, TN
Forget the back yard treehouse you played in as a kid. These treehouses are over the top lavish. Each treehouse has a king-sized bed, a copper soaking tub, a deck with a hot tub and pizza oven, and all the luxury amenities you’d expect at an all inclusive resort. And you get the added bonus of plenty of privacy and glorious mountain views.
Know before you book: Check for seasonal specials, parking and driveway access; request a unit with the least steps if knees are fussy.

Tiny House Siesta Key, FL
White sand, gentle waves, and all the activity Siesta Key offers make this tiny house getaway perfect for a few days at the beach. The Keys are known for shelling, wildlife viewing, and clear water. These tiny houses make up the most adorable community within walking distance of the shoreline.
Know before you book: Steps or ladders to sleeping loft, extra pet fees, can house two people

The Big Potato Hotel, ID
This is the quirkiness item on the list, but I think it would be so much fun! A once in a lifetime experience–stay a potato-shaped private hotel with chic interiors and a separate spa-style bath in a nearby silo. This is the famous giant potato that traveled the country for years as a advertising piece. Now it is parked for good in the middle of a farm field in Boise, Idaho. Silly on the outside, serenely comfy inside.
Know before you book: Only has room for two, seasonal booking, pack slippers to walk to restroom/shower.

Area 55 Futuro House, CA
From giant potatoes to UFO’s there are plenty of unusual glamping experiences. This 1970s UFO-style pod near Joshua Tree offers cozy retro furnishings, all the creature comforts to make this desert stay comfortable, and plenty of alien photo ops to prove to your friends that UFOs do exist. It’s playful, weird, and exactly the kind of place you’ll talk about for years.
Know before you book: Stairs leading into pod, separate outdoor shower, climate can be harsh in summer.

Blue Ocean Yachts, FL
Sleep steps from the water in a mooring slip or sailing across the sea. Blue Ocean vacations offers magnificent stays on luxury yachts. Imagine it —sunset on deck, coffee with gulls in the morning, cozy furnishings, and tranquility you can only find on the ocean.
Know before you book: Ask about dock stability, handrails, ladder/step access, and shore-power for AC.

Tipi Village, KY
Canvas tipis set on platforms with space for star-watching and morning coffee. We’ve covered this one in detail—cozy bedding and simple comforts hit the sweet spot for a quick getaway.

Bar W Dude Ranch, MT
Fishing, rodeos, line dancing, and ranch adventure just a stone’s throw from Glacier National Park. Bar W Dude Ranch offers cabin accommodations, trail rides, campfire nights, hearty meals, and plenty of activities to keep even the nonriders busy all week. This would be a great group trip. Who wants to go with me?
Know before you book: Weather changes are common and often extreme, most activites have saddle time expectations, notify ahead of time if you have food allergies.

Alaska Fishing Lodge
Cabins by cold, clear water; guides who know where the salmon run; and long daylight hours for storytelling by the stove. This all inclusive trip includes cabin style lodging, guided fishing trips, and meals.
Know before you book: Ask about stairs/ramps, requires charter plane travel onto the island, short walk from boats/docks to lodging.
